Careers By Design

Hello and welcome to Careers By Design!

Are you interested in helping your teen choose a career path or program of study? Then this is a great place to get started with Designing, Planning, and Executing their vision!

If we have not met, my name is Conquaya James, Ed.S., NCC. I am a formally trained career counselor from Florida State University’s Department of Educational Psychology & Learning Systems and The Career Center. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Clark Atlanta University, a Master of Science and a Specialist in Education degree in counseling and human systems, with an emphasis in career counseling, from Florida State University.

Also, I have been a Board Certified Counselor for 20+ years and am the founder of Careers By Design, LLC in Macon, Georgia. My passion is to help teens become more intentional and proactive about their career development and planning. My most favorite part of the process is witnessing the boost in their excitement and confidence as they discover answers and take the lead in designing a career that helps close the gap to their ideal lifestyle.

This is the FIRST STEP for those interested in working with Careers By Design in-person! We assist teens and young adults with clarifying their career identity so they can successfully solve career-related problems and create an action plan. This session allows potential clients to share their career-related problem(s) and allows our Board-Certified Counselor to show where the teen or young adult is in the career decision-making process, as well as provide next steps. Next steps can consist of a referral to a self-service resource, to one-on-one or a small group career counseling sessions, or to an outside service not affiliated to Careers By Design.

Reserve a slot by choosing the "IN-PERSON OFFICE" option that best suites the age range of the potential client, selecting the best date and time for your schedule, following the prompts for creating their profile, and expect to receive a confirmation email when complete.

We assist teens and young adults with clarifying their career identity in a small group, in-person, setting with three to eight participants. Rather than testing clients and telling them their results or problem-solving for them, we use a variety of mediums, including valid and reliable career assessments to assist clients with solving career-related problems. We also assist with the exploration of the world-of-work and teaching and applying the steps to career decision-making, skillsets that clients will be able to utilize throughout their life-long career journey. Our client-centered approach to career counseling and coaching incorporates research-based theories, techniques, and resources.

The main differences between group sessions and one-on-one sessions is that group sessions are a package deal, the cost is shared by the participants, making it more cost effective, and the potential for greater collaboration exists. One-on-one career counseling sessions allows the career counselor the ability to tailor sessions and resources to the specific needs of that particular client.

Small Groups are by age range (i.e. Early Teens, Teens, and Young Adults) and 4-weeks for Early Teens and 8-weeks for the older groups.

Because the career counselor needs to meet with each prospective group member prior to signing up, you may schedule a Complimentary Career Identity Assessment or call 478-241-0466 to get started.
